Digital Tools for Peacebuilding: At the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, I direct the FACE Peace Initiative, which seeks to provide peacebuilders and conflict-mitigation programs with guidance on using communication technologies as effectively as possible. In particular, this research focuses on the trade-off between the trust-building advantage of in-person programming against the greater inclusivity and convenience of distanced work. Funded by a generous grant from the Carnegie Corporation.

Threats Against Local Policy Makers: COVID-19 mask policies and increased polarization over teaching gender and sexuality have contributed to a sea change in the type and amount of threats faced by local policymakers. This project attempts to track the landscape of threats against city council and school board members in Southern California through surveys, social media scrapes, and interviews. I have designed the surveys, managed the research strategy for the interviews and media scrapes, and am currently planning data analysis and reports to stakeholders.
